Susan Wafula

Dr. Susan Nakhumicha Wafula is the Cabinet Secretary for Health in Kenya. She could be one of the few professionals to have been named in Ruto’s largely political cabinet. She holds a PhD in Business Management, Logistics & Supply Chain. With an extensive experience of over 15 years in Agile and Intelligent Supply Chain, Susan Nakhumicha Wafula can be considered as one of the best strategic supply chain specialists in Kenya.

Education

She earned a diploma in Pharmacy from Kenya Medical Training Institute (KMTC) and a diploma in Healthcare Management from Kenya Institute of Management.

In 2012, she enrolled at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) to pursue a master’s degree in procurement, logistics, and supply chain management. She received her diploma in 2012.

She also holds a PhD in Business Management, Logistics & Supply Chain.

Age

Susan Nakhumicha Wafula is aged around 58 years having been born in 1965, which means she is an age mate of Kenya’s Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Career

Wafula has worked at Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies & was since 2017 the Head of Supply Chain at UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences.

She ran for Tranzoia Woman Representative under Ford Kenya and lost to UDA candidate Lilian Chebet Siyoi.

In her LinkedIn account, Susan Wafula describes herself as “a strategic and seasoned supply chain professional with more than 15 years of global & multicultural experience in Agile and Intelligent Supply Chain and Operations in the healthcare industry with an excellent track record of providing an optimized, cognitive, seamless and globally integrated End to End Supply Chain solution.”

Wafula also worked under various donor guidelines like UCSF, USAID and Global Programs.

She also has procurement Expertise in Pharmaceuticals including medicines against HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria | HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria supply management including development of Procurement and Supply Management (PSM) plans in compliance with GF and other donor requirements.

Furthermore, she has experience in procurement of medical equipment and devices, Stationery, Printing works, logistics/transport services and consulting services

Wafula previously worked as a Procurement and Logistics Manager at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital Group and as a Procurement Intern at the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency.

She also holds a Master’s Degree in Science – Supply Chain, and as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement and Management.
