Alice Wahome

Alice Muthoni Wahome is the Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, and Urban Development. She is a veteran politician who previously served as the Member of Parliament for Kandara Constituency between 2013 and 2022. Alice Wahome was appointed by President William Ruto as the Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation. She was later moved to the ministry of Lands, Public Works, and Urban Development through a cabinet reshuffle done by President Ruto.

Early Life and Education

Alice Wahome was born on 28th April 1959 in Kandara, Murang’a County, Kenya. She attended Karumu Primary School and later joined Siakago High School for her secondary school education. She then joined the University of Nairobi in 1980 where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Law before attaining a postgraduate diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law in 1985.

Career

Alice Wahome is a lawyer and a politician with many years of experience in Kenyan politics. In 1988 she worked at the attorney general’s chambers as a state counsel, and in 1989 she worked as a legal practitioner at A. M. Wahome and Company Advocates.

In the 2013 Kenyan General elections, Wahome was elected to represent the Kandara Constituency in parliament under a Jubilee party ticket. In the 2017 Kenyan general elections she reclaimed her seat under the ruling party and won a third term in the 2022 August elections on a UDA ticket.

She actively promoted affirmative action from 1999 to 2001 while serving as vice-chairperson of the Fida council.

She also served a two-year term on the council of the Law Society of Kenya.

After retaining her seat in the 2022 elections she resigned her seat after being nominated to cabinet as Cabinet Secretary for Water and Sanitation by President William Ruto.

Alice Wahome’s Family

Alice Muthoni is married to Dr. Godfrey Wahome and they have four children. Wahome has three daughters and one son, the last born son is pursuing law at the university while the first born is a media personality. The other second and third born children are doctor and media personality respectively
